Hunched beside the dim lamp, Alice scribbled a few words in her notebook, then sighed and dropped her head into her hands. The last couple of weeks had devolved into chaos and she was at her wits end. The aberrant behaviour preceding his disappearance should have signalled that something was wrong, but she chose to overlook it all. Her obdurate quest to locate his whereabouts were losing steam.
She glanced up at the accoutrements on the coat rack in the corner of the room. His mismatched gloves and favourite Yankees hat. He built this alcove for her.
“I miss you. I wish you were here. You would know what to do”
The alcove echoed back in silence.
She was determined to go to the ends of the earth to find him.
