The introduction

Wiping my palm sweat on my freshly ironed pants, I realize I'm next in line. Would my word be humorous, or interesting, or dross? I had no idea but the incipience of my reputation was on the line. I could either emerge victorious or suffer a slow death of chagrin. I could see others of my kind, nervously shuffling on camera. Anxiety was endemic to fresh recruits. There was no escaping our fate.

I swallow hard and prepared for the inevitable question. 
Furthest from calm. Qualms abundant. Here goes.

  • incipience – beginning come into being
  • qualms – uneasy feeling of doubt, worry/fear especially about one’s own conduct
  • dross – something regarded as worthless; rubbish
  • chagrin – distress/embarrassment at having failed or been humiliated
